Dr Gidon will suggest a Fraxel treatment plan at your initial consultation at our toronto dermatology clinic. Your Fraxel treatment plan will be made in part based on clinical studies indicating that generally an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions, separated about 2 to 4 weeks apart. However, because Fraxel treats such a wide variety of different skin conditions the exact Fraxel treatment regimen will be decided after your initial Fraxel consultation.
Before your Fraxel Treatment
Fraxel treatments are performed in Dr Gidon’s Toronto office. To control discomfort in the treatment area pain management medication may be prescribed by Dr Gidon. The treatment area will be cleansed prior to your Fraxel procedure. Then a topical anesthetic may be applied for a period of 45 to 60 minutes before your Fraxel treatment. The procedure takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or longer depending on the surface area being treated.
After your Fraxel Treatment
Results of Fraxel treatment can be seen right away, however, most patients will see dramatic results after 2 or 3 Fraxel treatments. There is minimal discomfort with the Fraxel treatment. You may feel a sensation similar to a sun burn for a short period following your Fraxel procedure and your skin may have a pinkish tone for a period of few days following the Fraxel procedure. Minimal swelling may occur but will go away in a day or two following the Fraxel procedure. Immediately following the Fraxel treatment the treated area will be cleansed.
In the case of treatment of the face a hydrating cream may be applied to the face after your Fraxel procedure followed by a Fraxel topical moisturizer and sun block. Make-up can be applied shortly after the Fraxel procedure and most patients resume normal activities on the same day as the Fraxel procedure.
After the damaged layer of the skin has been treated by Fraxel laser, the skin begins to go through the healing process and new collagen is formed. The first stage of the healing process following Fraxel laser procedure begins by having a bronzed tone to the skin resembling a soft tan and may last up to one week. The next and final phase of healing after the Fraxel procedure involves exfoliation of the old surface skin revealing fresh new skin.
